BitFinder
Duplicated Files Finder

Ever had a large amount of files on your computer that you needed to organize, look for duplicated files and clean them up? Or simply can’t afford the time to look for duplicated files on your computer, or even have wasted space, that you need so bad, and that its been occupied by duplicated files that you may not even know about?
Well, BitFinder is just the tool designed to make that monotonous work into a very easy and fast job.
How does it work?
All the user has to do is open BitFinder, specify where to look for duplicated files and hit search. Once the search is done, it will display all the duplicated files it found, if any.
What to do after a search?
Once a search is done the duplicated files will be displayed allowing the user to manipulate those same files. Once displayed the user will be able to select which files to manipulate by checking them on the list. That same list will be organized by the group number that a file belongs to.
What is the group number?
When two or more copies of the same file are found, a specific unique number is given to all those files, for example if three copies of the same picture are found, when displayed on the list, all and only those three pictures will be in the group one (for example). On the same search the same music file was found four times, which will make all those four files to be displayed on the list on group two (since group one was already taken by the pictures).
What to do with the selected files?
Once the user selected all the files to be modified, there will be three options available for those files. The user will be able to copy them to a specific location, and once copied those same copied files will also be displayed on the list in a blue color (by default). The user will also be able to move those files to a specific location, and again, those moved files will be displayed on the list, but this time in an orange color (by default). The user will also be able to delete the files, which once delete they will simply be removed from the list.
All those three options will be available on the top menu under “Duplicated“.

Support BitFinder development:
Alpha notes:
UAC (User Account Control) is still been implemented, therefore to use shell integration on Windows 7/Vista, BitFinder will have run BitFinder with administrator privileges. On Windows XP and previews, to use shell integration on a limited account the user will have to use the “Run As” option and run BitFinder with administrator privileges or simply use an account with administrator privileges.
To search inside system folders/partitions on Windows 7/Vista BitFinder will once again have to be run with administrator privileges.
Search presets such has “Computer”, “Local drives”, “Removable media”, and all the file types are still to be implemented, therefore they will not work. On a search make sure you specify correctly a search path by typing it or by using the “Other” option. Also make sure you have “All files” is selected.

Rather than forcing the user to manually select the files they want to copy/move, may I suggest you give the user the option to have the program select all but one file from each group. When I tested out your program it found 9170 duplicate files. I didn’t have the time to manually select all but one file from each group. With the auto-select option I’m suggesting, removing the duplicate files would have been easy. Thanks.

If there is a future version in the works, please consider allowing users to exclude certain file types. For example in the search of duplicate files the results included nearly a thousand .ini files which are used to color code my folders.
